About 32 Chadians and one Togolese have been arrested by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at their hideouts in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The Ogun State command of the NIS paraded the suspects at its office in Abeokuta on Saturday.
Addressing newsmen, the Controller of Immigration in Ogun Command, Jibrin Yakubu explained that the suspects did not have valid travel documents, adding that they have no means of livelihood.
According to him, the illegal migrants were apprehended on Wednesday after NIS officers stormed their two hideouts in Odeda at 12 am.
While describing them as security threats to the nation, Yakubu maintained that their entry into the country was illegal and their purpose of coming into Nigeria was suspicious.
The foreign nationals, he said, can communicate only in French.
“They told us that they were invited by the Togolese for networking business. They had to register and after registration, they will have to pay some amount of money for that registration; and every week, their accounts will be funded,” he explained.
However, he added that the Togolese who brought them into the country did not show any business for which he recruited the Chadians.
The foreigners, he informed, would be repatriated next week.
