No fewer than 26,762 residents of Nasarawa state have been financially empowered by the Federal Government of Nigeria in its bid to eradicate poverty in the state.
Some of the residents were given temporary employment under the FG’s N-power program while others were given loans to start or boost their existing businesses, under the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Program.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, made the disclosure in Lafia on Saturday during the visit of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to Nasarawa State.
Buhari had arrived the state for the inauguration of some projects executed by the FG and for the presidential campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, on Saturday.
She said that 198,238 pupils in Nasarawa State were also benefiting from the Federal Government’s school feeding program while 144,000 households received a monthly grant of N5,000 from the FG.
She thanked Buhari for giving women the opportunity to serve in prominent positions in his government, adding that market women, farmers, youths and the vulnerable had benefited immensely under the social investment programme of the government domicile in her office.
“Mr. President, we are in this campaign rally today to thank you for keeping to your promise of changing the lives of the poor and vulnerable people of this country.
“The Conditioner Cash Transfer, N-power program, Government Enterprise and Empowerment Program, School feeding program, among others are really helping citizens of this country to live a better life.
“Since independence, no government has done what you have done for the poor people and we will continue to remain grateful to you,” the Minister added.
One of the beneficiaries under Farmer Moni of the GEEP program, Josuah Peter, who spoke on behalf of the entire beneficiaries of the federal government programs in Nasarawa State, expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for the opportunity given to them to earn a living, and promised not to disappoint him and leaders of the programs in the state.
