The Adamawa State University, Mubi will on Tuesday hold its 14th convocation ceremony, where a total of 2,594 graduating students will be conferred academic qualifications ranging from diplomas, degrees, and postgraduate degrees.
Professor Kaletapwa G. Farauta, ADSU Vice Chancellor and running mate to the state governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, at a press conference organised to herald activities marking the convocation ceremony on Sunday, said for the first degree, the institution has 23 First Class honours recipient.
She also said Prof. Elias Bogoro, former executive secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, would be conferred with the honourary Doctor of Science in recognition of his sterling contribution to the development of tertiary education in Nigeria.
She said, “For the first degrees, we have 23 in First Class (Honours) category. In the Second Class (Honours) Upper Division, we have a total of 635, while the second Class (Honours) Lower Division has 1,448 graduands. 200 fall under the Third Class (Honour) Category, and 18 would graduate with pass degrees. This brings the total number of our First Degree graduands to 2,408.
“For the postgraduate Degrees, where we have postgraduate Diploma, Professional Masters, Masters with Research Thesis, Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy respectively, this prestigious University will graduate 186 graduands across our faculties.”
The Vice-Chancellor also used the occasion to highlight some of the achievements recorded by the institution, including its latest ranking as the first state university in the North East, third university in the entire North East, and 79th in the country.
She also stated that five students who graduated as overall best graduating students from the last convocation ceremony and were granted automatic employment on Fintiri’s orders were now in the institution’s employment and attending further studies on scholarship.
A lecturer in the accounting department emerged as the best candidate in the National Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria professional level qualifying examination for 2021, Kaletapwa said in her address.
