The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in next year’s election in Kaduna State, Isa Ashiru, says the state needs to be rescued on five points agenda to overcome its present challenges.
The gubernatorial candidate revealed his five points agenda at a parley with newsmen in Kaduna to include, security, agriculture, women and youth, education and health.
On security, Ashiru said the major responsibility of government as provided for in the constitution of the country is to guarantee the security of lives and property of its citizens, lamenting that the security situation in Nigeria has deteriorated in the last couple of years and Kaduna State has had one of the worst of the challenges.
He explained, “The major security challenges that Kaduna State is faced with now are armed banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling, religious conflicts/inference, farmers-settlers conflict, indigene-settler crisis, land and boundary disputes, drug abuse, gangsterism and thuggery.”
To ensure peace, he noted that efforts should be made to improve and energize the state’s security outfit, initiate the establishment of security committees at the ward level and establish a robust state-wide vigilante outfit with active support and supervision of the security agencies.
He lamented that mistrust among citizenry led to insecurity in the state, saying, ” A situation where one part of the state dominates the other will be a thing of the past if elected into office. Poverty also contributed to insecurity. We will do everything humanly possible to arrest and bring a permanent solution to the situation.”
The gubernatorial candidate also lamented that unemployment is so alarming in the state, saying he would do everything humanly possible to arrest the situation. “Many civil servants were sacked without benefits being paid to them. So I can go on and on to give reasons for the causes of insecurity in the state,” he noted.
He stated that insecurity has contributed greatly to the low turnout of farming in the state, saying, ” the cost of fertilizer has gone up. We will ameliorate the situation when we come to power. Kaduna Agricultural Development Agency is no more, it is now a shopping mall. We have a lot to do when we talk of agriculture in the state. We need to support agricultural activities when we come to power.”
Ashiru said partnering with journalists in the state has become imperative because they contribute to the development of the state and the nation in general.
He said, “I will work with journalists as partners in progress if elected governor because as the fourth estate of the realms, they contribute a lot to the development of the state and the country in general.”
