Ahead of the February presidential election, the Labour Party has debunked reports that its structure in the Southwest region collapsed into the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Reports emerged on Monday that leaders of the LP and members in the Southwest moved en-mass to the ruling party to support the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

According to reports, the LP chieftains who were received into the APC by the National Chairman of SWAGA, Dayo Adeyeye, were reportedly led by the Southwest Chairman of the ruling party, Banji Omotosho.

Omotosho said in his address that they decided to port to the APC after realizing that LP was not viable and lacked the clout to win the 2023 elections.

But speaking with Newspot on Tuesday, the chief spokesperson of the LP presidential campaign council, Aliyu Tanko said the structure is still intact, describing the report as fake.

Tanko accused APC of peddling fake reports, stressing that the party does not know the acclaimed collapsed structure.

He said, “They are fake People. The Labour Party structure in Southwest is very much intact. Those particular people you see that are claiming to be leadership of the party in the region, we don’t even know them.

“These were fake reports from the APC. There are a lot of things you will see coming up. Even the N2bn allegation against Obi are all lies”.
