Veteran journalist, public affairs analyst, Jimi Disu has come out to discuss what is repulsive to many worshippers in our churches today as pastors have turned the pulpit to preaching racial hatred and ethnicity .during this 2023 General Elections in Lagos metropolis.
.
He talked of how worshippers walked out during  a church service in the state because of the sermon being preached by the Pastor.

While speaking during an interview on Nigeria Info FM’s ‘Dailies Disu decried the rate at which ethnic division and tribal hate speech were being used as campaign tools for certain parties and their candidates ahead of Saturday’s governorship polls.

To buttress his point, the veteran journalist explained that some people were forced to abandon a church service in the Alausa axis of Lagos when the clergyman suddenly deviated from his sermon and began canvassing for support for a candidate by preaching against a particular ethnic group resident in the state.

He said; “This is what I have been saying, apart from the political harassment we have started seeing, some people have totally lost their sense of discretion and have thrown caution to the wind all in the name of politics.

In one of the churches in Alausa this past Sunday, it was almost turned into a political ground. Imagine where the Provost, who should be preaching a sermon to save souls, was more concerned with preaching a sermon that was in favor of one political party and its candidate.

He also started talking about the ethnic factor, especially against a particular tribe. He did all of these on the pulpit. some  people walked out of the church service but the preacher didn’t even give a damn.

This made me wonder how we got to this point as a country. Honestly, I don’t know what has happened to us or what all this anxiety is about. Is poverty the cause?”
