124 repentant Boko Haram terrorists reintegrated into society Niger Republic

The government of Niger Republic has officially reintegrated 124 former members of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

These include 81 ex-combatants and several minors, into society.

Zagazola Makama, a Lake Chad Basin counter terrorism and insurgency expert, made this known in a post on his X handle on Sunday.

According to Makama, the announcement about the reintegration of 124 former Boko Haram members was made on Thursday by the Nigerien Press Agency, ANP.

The security expert stated that the reintegration ceremony, marking the sixth wave of repentant Boko Haram members, took place in Goudoumaria, Diffa Region, in the southeastern part of the country, noting that the event was attended by the Regional Governor, Brig.-Gen. Mahamadou Ibrahim Bagadoma, and other dignitaries.

“Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Bagadoma emphasized that the deradicalization and reintegration program is part of a proactive policy by the Nigerien government.

“The initiative aims to mitigate the social impacts of armed conflicts while fostering inclusive socio-economic development nationwide,” Makama wrote.
