…berates Content Creators for Vulgarity

The Akwa Ibom State Government is set to roll out a Value Charter Plan with the goal of fostering sustainable development, promoting social cohesion, and good governance in line with the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno.

The hint was dropped on Friday on the programme Good Morning Akwa Ibom on Premium 89.9 FM, Abak, by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Umo Eno on Ethical Orientation, Rev. Osondu Ahirika, PhD, while fielding questions from Itoro Columba on the rot in our values system and the role of mindset reorientation in connecting the dots.

According to Dr. Ahirika, Governor Umo Eno, worried by the rot in our sociocultural values and determined to address the situation, is set to roll out a Values Charter to entrench a culture of integrity, accountability, respect, patriotism, and excellence among citizens, institutions, and government agencies in Akwa Ibom State.

The SSA, while berating content creators and the unregulated social media for the defiled value system that has corrupted the mindset of youths as they deploy extreme vulgarity in pursuit of validation, likes, comments, and engagements for monetisation, said the relevant authorities should enforce extant media laws to curb the abuse of the digital internet space.

Dr. Ahirika said the vision is to institutionalise a Values Charter for the citizenry and governance system in Akwa Ibom that will embody shared ethical standards, civic responsibility, and societal values which will drive sustainable inclusive growth and moral leadership.

On strategies adopted by the government to address the ethical decay in society, Dr. Ahirika said a holistic approach is requiredβ€”engaging the citizenry through social media platforms, traditional print and electronic media outlets, schools, markets, and roadshow sensitisation campaigns, as well as collaboration with civil society groups, non-governmental organisations, traditional and religious institutions.

He commended radio and television stations in the state for helping promote the public enlightenment and education of the citizens on core values that foster a culture of ethical behaviour, patriotism, and civic responsibility, expressing optimism that Governor Umo Eno will achieve his vision on ethical reorientation as aligned to the ARISE Agenda.
