OAKMONT, PENNSYLVANIA — The 2025 U.S. Open teed off with high stakes and headline moments at the legendary Oakmont Country Club, where the combination of fast greens, thick rough, and punishing bunkers created a true test of golf’s best. As Round One concluded, American J.J. Spaun took solo command of the leaderboard — but it was Patrick Reed who etched his name in U.S. Open history with one of the rarest feats in the game.

Spaun played a bogey-free round of 66, taming Oakmont’s brutal layout with precision iron play and confident putting. His -4 was the lowest score of the day and the only round in the 60s, making him the outright leader going into Friday.
